Name: Kent A. Jordan Position: Circuit Judge, United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit
Kent A. Jordan was appointed in 2006 to serve as a United States Circuit Judge for the Third Circuit. Before that, Judge Jordan was a United States District Judge for the District of Delaware from 2002 to 2006. He received a B.A. in Economics in 1981 from Brigham Young University and a J.D. in 1984 from Georgetown University. He was an Assistant United States Attorney and head of the Civil Division in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Delaware. Later, he served as an officer and as a member of the boards of directors of privately held businesses and was a partner in a Wilmington, Delaware law firm. He is an Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of Pennsylvania and Vanderbilt University and served as President of the Board of Trustees of the American Inns of Court Foundation, as well as on the boards of other non-profit organizations.
Name: Colin Birss Position: Lord Justice, Court of Appeal of England and Wales
Colin Birss is a judge of the Court of Appeal of England and Wales and Deputy Head of Civil Justice. He was called to the English Bar in 1990 and practiced in intellectual property law. He was appointed Standing Counsel for the Comptroller 2003-2008 and took silk in 2008. In 2010 Colin Birss was appointed judge of what is now the Intellectual Property Enterprise Court (IPEC), going to the High Court in 2013. In 2019 he became Judge in Charge of the Patents Court and in 2021 he was appointed to his current roles. He also chairs the Civil Procedure Rules Committee and sits on the Civil Justice Council. Colin Birss served as Supervising Judge for the Business and Property Courts on the Midlands, Western and Wales Circuits from 2017-2019. He is an independent judicial member of the EPO Boards of Appeal Committee and serves on the Advisory Board of Judges for the WIPO Judicial Institute. He is also General Editor of the textbook Terrell on the Law of Patents, and a Council member of the UK Foundation for Science and Technology.
Name: Dr. Klaus Bacher Position: Presiding Judge, Federal Court of Justice (Bundesgerichtshof), Germany
Klaus Bacher is a presiding judge at the Federal Court of Justice (Bundesgerichtshof) in Germany.
He studied law in Freiburg im Breisgau and was appointed to the Local Court (Amtsgericht) in Freiburg in 1994. From 1995 he was a judge in the special division for IP law at the District Court (Landgericht) in Mannheim. From 1997 to 2000 he worked as desk officer in the Ministry of Justice of the state of Baden-Wuerttemberg. From 2000 to 2003 he was research assistant in the patent division of the Federal Court of Justice. In 2003 he was appointed to the Court of Appeal (Oberlandesgericht) in Karlsruhe.
In 2009 Klaus Bacher was appointed to the Federal Court of Justice. He was a member of the patent division and the division for anti-trust and energy law. Since 2020 Klaus Bacher is the presiding judge of the patent division (10th Civil Senate).
Klaus Bacher is co-author and editor of commentaries and textbooks on various fields of German Law, inter alia the German Patent Act, the Code of Civil Procedure, the Unfair Competition Act, and the Act against Restraints of Competition.
Since 2022 Klaus Bacher is a guest professor at Tongji University, Shanghai.
